Discount Appliances

For years I have known that, with the high quality of appliances manufactured cheaply overseas in obscure parts of the world, it is easy to get discount high-tech consumer goods if you know where to look. My whole house is equipped with discount appliances and, for the most part, they have worked pretty well. Although one of the hazards of buying discounted appliances is that, occasionally, you'll come across a dud, for the most part you can find stuff with warranties that cover your purchase.

Going from being a bargain shopper to discount home appliance salesman, however, has been a big step for me. My brother and I wanted to start our own business ever since we were little, but we never really could agree on what kind of business to start. We both had a lot of interests, but discount appliances wasn't one of them. The business actually started on a whim. We went to a discount appliance closeout in a warehouse store that was on the skids and decided to buy up a whole lot of merchandise. We invested a couple thousand dollars each and bought wholesale appliances that were worth much more.

We sold that first load of discount appliances out of our house. Technically, I suppose, it was an illegal sale, and it was kind of hard to find purchasers. Nonetheless since we were selling a fairly small amount of merchandise, we weren't really that worried about it. What was surprising was how well it went and how much money we made. Just by posting a few ads around town, we were able to sell off all of our discount appliances within a month. Each of us got a few thousand dollars – not enough to live on, but enough to get us thinking.

Taking the step to running a discount appliance store was difficult, but we managed. We rented a warehouse space downtown and began scouring the Internet for discount appliances. We bought new and used appliances of every shape and size. We got discontinued kitchen appliances, a lot of home stereo systems, and basically anything else you can think of. We decided that, rather than having a well-stocked variety of appliances, we would get the cheapest deals. Then people could come and pick out what they wanted from among the best bargains. This strategy has worked. Although neither of us can afford to work at the business full time, it does provide a great supplemental income.

Summary
Discount appliances can save you a lot of money. The trick is to purchase from a reputable stores which offers a warranty for the appliance. Most offer 1 year or offer a purchase protection plan. Dealing in discount appliances as a business can be a valuable enterprise. Check around your area and see if there is competition.
